Discovery Center

Today we visited our local Discovery Center. Victor has wanted to go since we moved to Springfield, and I always avoided it by saying it was for kids. Then, after Becca, I would say that she was too young. Well, this week I saw an article in the paper about the Discovery Center and its special features for Preschoolers. Okay, okay, I gave in. Becca had a ball! She liked playing in the room for the little kids, except for the mess that the other kids made with the “dirt” they were moving around. She also liked the little market where she picked out fruit and vegetables. They even had a pretend ATM machine and she was able to get play money. In fact we enjoyed it so much that by the time we realized that we had played well past lunch time, Becca was ready for a meltdown. We were only able to order tea from the restaurant before we had to flee. Becca is indeed in the midst of “The Terrible Twos!” It was much the same as the airplane (and yesterday afternoon, for that matter.)…SCREAMS, crying, kicking, nothing would satisfy her. She eventually fell asleep and is still resting. Man, does that child have an ear-piercing scream! Victor was absolutely wonderful…so calm, and reassuring, while I had a breakdown of my own!! Poor thing, he has to deal with two emotional girls. I keep telling him how fun it will be for him when Becca is hitting puberty just as I am entering menopause!

On a happier note, we had our 3rd and final post-adoption visit with our social worker on Wednesday. Becca was funny and charming, and showed off appropriately, so I feel sure we’ll have a good report for China!
